HKICPA and HKEAA Collaborate to Introduce Computer-based Examinations for the Qualification Programme
The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“HKICPA”) and the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (“HKEAA”) are pleased to announce the collaboration in implementing Computer-based Examinations (“CBE”) for the HKICPA’s Qualification Programme (the “QP”). This partnership signifies a momentous milestone in our commitment to elevating the professional examination experience for QP students across Hong Kong and Mainland China, promoting environmental sustainability and aligning the qualification process with the digital evolution of the accounting profession.
This strategic move aims to provide the QP students with a paperless, secure and fully digitalised assessment experience, making the examination process more dynamic and efficient, while enhancing accessibility and contributing to environmental sustainability.
Edward Au, President of HKICPA, said, “The implementation of Computer-based Examinations marks a significant step forward for the Qualification Programme, bringing it into the digital age and enhancing the experience for our students while also embracing environmental sustainability. This transition not only aligns with the global trend towards paperless assessments but also provides a more dynamic and efficient platform for our candidates and reduces our environmental footprint. The HKICPA remains committed to providing world-class training and supporting the career development of CPAs, contributing to Hong Kong's continued success as a leading international financial center."
With a longstanding partnership with the HKICPA in delivering professional qualification examinations, the HKEAA brings a wealth of experience and expertise in administering CBEs to ensure a seamless and efficient candidate experience.
Prof Wei Xiang-dong, Secretary General of the HKEAA, said, “The HKEAA deeply appreciates the ongoing support and trust extended by the HKICPA. We are committed to providing advanced digital assessment platforms and establishing comprehensive and suitable operational arrangements for the CBE, ensuring alignments with the QP’s assessment requirements and providing all candidates with professional, equitable and reliable assessment services. As part of the Digital Assessment Initiative, we aim to broaden the scope of our digital assessment services. Looking ahead, we will continue to allocate resources strategically to enhance related hardware infrastructure and facilities, as well as to develop talent, ensuring the excellence and competitiveness of our international and professional examinations”.
The implementation of CBE will be rolled out in phases, beginning with the QP’s Associate Modules in the June 2025 examination session. Candidates will be able to prepare for the transition through an online CBE practising platform to familiarise themselves with the computer-based mode and system operations. The platform will be available soon on the HKICPA’s website. Relevant updates and guidelines will also be provided on the HKICPA website as the transition to CBE is implemented in phases.
The HKICPA’s QP provides world-class and comprehensive training to ensure newly qualified Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) are equipped with the necessary technical knowledge, professional skills, values and ethics, and relevant practical experience to meet the needs in today’s business environment. Since its inception in 1999, QP has nurtured over 28,000 CPAs for Hong Kong.
