IFRS 17 Global Developments Discussion Forum and 
Roundtables on the proposed amendments to IFRS 17

Hong Kong, 3-5 July 2019

 

The Hong Kong Institute of CPAs will host a series of events and have invited the relevant representatives of all authorized insurers in Hong Kong and other interested stakeholders to attend.

 

The HKICPA is committed to ongoing monitoring and assessment of international and Hong Kong developments, to supporting Hong Kong companies during the implementation phase, and to ensuring our voices are heard. IFRS 17 Global Developments Discussion Forum

This forum focuses on international IFRS 17 developments and is relevant to insurers that operate globally or multi-national insurers based in Hong Kong. The forum provides participants an understanding of the accounting landscape and the current status of IFRS 17 endorsement and implementation in other major insurance markets, in particular, Europe and Canada.

 

Participants will have the chance to ask questions and interact with the speakers, as well as IASB representatives who will be attending the forum. There will also be a panel discussion.

  • Mr. Martin Edelmann, Member of the IASB and Chairman of the IASB Transition Resource Group for IFRS 17
  • Prof. Dr. Andreas Barckow, Vice President of the Board of the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group and President of the Accounting Standards Committee of Germany
  • Ms. Linda Mezon, Chair of the Accounting Standards Board of Canada

 

Target audience

Insurance companies that are affected by endorsements/implementation of IFRS 17 in other jurisdictions, ideally the CFO or another senior personnel with decision making powers and the IFRS 17 implementation leader.

Roundtables on the proposed amendments to IFRS 17

The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has been discussing stakeholder concerns and implementation challenges raised since IFRS 17 was issued, and plans to publish an exposure draft of proposed amendments to IFRS 17 at the end of June.

 

HKICPA will host roundtables where IASB representatives will walk through and explain the rationale of the proposed amendments. The purpose of the roundtables is for the IASB and HKICPA to obtain feedback from preparers, implementation advisors and investors on the proposed amendments from a Hong Kong perspective.
